Back Pain
Avoid toe touches or strenuous back exercises – though it’s usually a good idea to try and exercise the back muscles, it is important to know which exercises are beneficial, and which are harmful. Toe touches while standing can put more stress on the ligaments, disks and spine rather then relieving the pain. Certain exercises such as partial crunches, hamstring stretches, wall sits or press-up back extensions can all help appropriately stretch the muscles and temporarily relieve lower back pain.
Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain can be caused from simple athletic exercises or daily movements. They carry a majority of your weight and can be easy to dislocate. To help relieve shoulder pain, here are a few tips: Stay active-while working, sitting at home, or simply watching tv, try to stretch out or move around. Keeping your body in motion will promote blood flow and help prevent body aches and pains.
Neck Pain
Neck pain can be an exclusive pain or often be combined with shoulder pain from a number of daily tasks. Simple daily tasks such as sitting or standing with poor posture, sleeping wrong, or even stress can all lead to neck and/or shoulder pain. To help alleviate neck and shoulder pain, try these exercises:
Corner Stretch – Stand 2 feet away from a corner, facing the corner. Place both forearms on the wall, elbows should be level with shoulders and feet should be together. Lean into corner to stretch as much as possible without pain or injury, creating a stretch through the front of the shoulders and chest. Hold for 30 seconds and release. This should create enough of a stretch to temporarily relieve pain.
Other simple stretches such as leaning your head to one side and holding with your hand to create stretch can help to loosen muscles and lessen tension in the neck and shoulders. Hold for 20 seconds.
